The name SITARAM is interpreted as Sita – furrow, and Ram – stop, stand calmly, rest and rejoice. This resonates with the idea of collecting medicinal plants and transforming them into life-enhancing medicines, informing people about the goodness of Ayurveda and the immense importance of understanding and treating our health.

• Nearest airport: Cochin International Airport (COK) - 62 km (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes by road).

Loving nature is not just about admiring its beauty, but also about fighting for its protection.

1. They don't buy or serve bottled mineral water here to minimise plastic waste. Sitaram offers safe drinking water with effective purification and ultrafiltration.
2. The plastic waste produced is recycled in conjunction with the local authority.
3. The restaurant produces no waste as all plant residue is recycled through a biogas plant and also used as compost.
4. The infrastructure uses eco-friendly materials such as terracotta and wood.
5. Rainwater harvesting is practised here for subsequent use.
6. The retreat supports the local community by sourcing all necessary supplies from local vendors.
7. Sitaram is training local residents to improve their employment opportunities and recruit staff for the centre.
8. Sitaram's staff are involved in cleaning the beach area and educating local residents on healthy waste management to promote eco-friendly responsible tourism.
9. Intensive frequent training sessions are being held at the centre for all female staff on childcare and maintaining family harmony. This is one of the training programmes capable of transforming society in the long term.

The Story of Sitaram Beach Retreat

Sitaram Beach Retreat, a place for inner peace and sustainable healing, is part of Sitaram Ayurveda Pharmacy.

With the blessings of His Highness Kochy Maharaj Rama Varma Kunjikidavu Tampuran and his beloved Sri Parukutty Nettyar Amma, Sitaram has embarked on the path of healing and nurturing people through Ayurveda and providing quality medical services since May 19, 1921.

The Maharaja of Cochin's initiative was later continued by three distinguished personalities, Shri P. Parameswara Iyer, Shri Gopalkrishna Iyer, and Shri Balarama Iyer.

The legacy and tradition have been carried forward by P. Devaraj Iyer, son of the elder Parameshwara Iyer, and currently by his grandson Dr. Ramanathan Devaraj Iyer, who is the Chief Physician and Managing Director of the company. Sitaram Beach Retreat is the brainchild of Dr. R. Vignesh Devraj (Ayu), the great-grandson of the late Sri Parameshwara Iyer. His vision is to provide sustainable optimal health without compromising on the tradition of Ayurveda.

Sitaram Ayurveda Pharmacy is the first Ayurvedic pharmaceutical company in the world to receive GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification. Sitaram Ayurveda Pharmacy is also the first Ayurvedic company in South India to receive ISO 9001:2000 certification.

Panchakarma is a cellular-level detoxification aimed at removing your old mental and physical patterns stored in the body. The aspect of self-realisation is key to this process, and the Sitaram retreat thoughtfully combines quiet spaces where you can reflect, self-examine, and connect with yourself in the company of nature.

Organic garden

The surrounding landscape is dotted with many trees and presents a lush green vista. The swaying coconut palms are a pleasant sight and complement the tropical atmosphere here. Other trees also grow in the garden: gooseberry, pomegranate, mango, mangosteen, guava, rambutan, chambekiya, Indian medicinal fig, sitafal, carambola, pomelo, jackfruit, irumban puli, chiku, papaya, wild jackfruit trees, coconut palms, bamboo, nut palms and neem. There is also a vegetable garden with herbs such as tulsi, moringa, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, coffee and cloves. In addition, there are many flowering plants and shrubs, over which beautiful butterflies flutter. The garden is home to many unique birds and animals from the surroundings.
