Yoga in India: schools, retreats and tours
A yoga tour to India is a trip to its homeland: practice in an authentic setting, with experienced teachers, at the calm pace of a retreat. Here yoga is not fitness but a living tradition: there are yoga schools, retreat centres and training programmes — from a first acquaintance to courses for future instructors. And if you wish, yoga can be combined with Ayurveda — with procedures and a diet for the body. We will find a programme to match your level and format.

Yoga in India: schools, training, retreats
People go to India for yoga in different ways — the format is chosen to suit the goal:
Yoga retreat
A trip «for yourself»: practice in the morning and evening, rest, a calm setting. Suitable for beginners too.
Yoga training
Courses and programmes at yoga schools, up to instructor training; people come here for systematic practice and depth.
Yoga tour
A combination of practice and travel: yoga plus getting to know the country.
A calm rhythm, teachers who are practitioners, and the very atmosphere of the homeland of yoga — this is what people come to India for, rather than to the nearest fitness club.
Where to go for yoga
- Rishikesh — the world capital of yoga, the Himalayan foothills: people come here for authentic practice, training and meditation. More — Rishikesh.
- Goa — here there are serious yoga centres (for example, SWAN Yoga Retreat): full practice and retreats by the ocean, not «yoga just for show».
- Kerala — the south by the ocean, the homeland of Ayurveda: people come here to combine yoga with Ayurvedic procedures. More — Ayurveda in Kerala.
Specific centres in these locations are in the selection below.
Yoga schools and retreat centres
We work with vetted centres in various locations — from specialised yoga retreats and schools (with a full programme of practice and training) to resorts where yoga goes together with Ayurveda. Choose one to suit your focus, format and price:
Yoga and Ayurveda: how to combine them
Yoga and Ayurveda in the Indian tradition are «sisters» from the same roots: yoga works with the body, the breath and the mind (asanas, pranayama, meditation), and Ayurveda with balance and a diet suited to the constitution (doshas). Therefore in many centres they are offered together: morning practice, and in the daytime — Ayurvedic procedures and a diet suited to your dosha. If you want not only practice but also physical wellness, take a combined programme; if you want pure yoga — a retreat or a course without procedures. We will find either option.
What the programme includes
Depending on the format (pure yoga or yoga + Ayurveda):
- Yoga practices — asanas in the morning and evening, adapted to the group’s level (there are sessions for beginners), pranayama and meditation.
- Training — in the schools’ programmes: theory, methodology, practice (for those who go deeper or are preparing to teach).
- Ayurveda (optional) — oil procedures, massage, and if necessary a doctor’s consultation.
- Nutrition — vegetarian Ayurvedic cuisine, light.
- Accommodation and support — at the centre, with transfer and help with the visa.
What a day at a retreat is like
The rhythm is calm: an early rise and morning yoga with pranayama, a light breakfast, in the daytime — training, free time or Ayurvedic procedures, vegetarian meals, and in the evening a gentle practice or meditation. That is the essence of a retreat — to return an even tone to the body and the mind.
For instructors: a retreat for your group
Do you teach yoga and want to bring a group to a retreat in India? We will help with the arrangements: choosing a centre/school to suit the format and budget, accommodating the group, if desired Ayurvedic support, transfer and the visa. Leave a request — we will put together a programme for your group.

Yoga and Ayurveda are traditional wellness practices, not a substitute for medical care. In case of illnesses and restrictions, agree the programme with a doctor.
