Hava Beach
The precise «address» of Hawa Beach is: India, Kerala state, Kovalam village. It is one of the famous sandy beaches stretching in a chain along the ocean coast. Kerala differs from other regions of India for the better. It is officially the most economically and socially developed state in the country. And most importantly – the streets and public places here are much cleaner than in other regions.
«Rocks, sand, waves, fishermen»
Havah Beach (Havah, Eve's Beach) is covered in fine, clean sand in all shades of yellow, from snow-white to almost black. It is bordered on both sides by rocky headlands, which slightly soften the ferocity of the ocean waves. One traveller describes Havah Beach as: «Rocks, sand, waves, fishermen.» It is indeed a favourite spot for Indian fishermen.
Every morning at dawn or evening at sunset, hundreds of traditional boats set out to hunt for sea treasures. Here, right on the shore, you can buy fresh catch and ask for it to be prepared before your eyes. Locals love to come here at sunset to admire the unusually beautiful spectacle of the sun sinking into the ocean.
Nearby, another popular leisure spot is Lighthouse Beach, famous for its lighthouse. A few kilometres to the south lies Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. Those who wish to do more than just bask on the soft sand, but also witness Indian life in all its glory, can easily reach the historical districts of the city, admiring the magnificent architecture of temples and palaces. Active holidaymakers will be pleased by the catamaran and kayak rental facilities. This is a very fortunate place for surfing, water skiing, and snorkelling (swimming with a snorkel and mask).
Along the coast stretches a long chain of hotels, primarily catering to tourists. This means that the staff have at least a basic knowledge of English. The restaurants offer familiar European food, and for those feeling adventurous, exotic dishes of local cuisine. Small hotels are often decorated in a national style. Cosy bungalows hidden in the shade of palm trees only add to the beach's charm.

Holiday + Ayurveda
All hotels in Kerala have their own Ayurvedic centres, Here you can take a course of cosmetic or wellness treatments. In addition, many small massage parlours, sometimes run by just one person, are scattered throughout the shopping area, along the village streets, and the waterfront. It's also common for massage therapists to offer sessions right on the beach. Travellers can easily combine a seaside holiday with pleasant, relaxing treatments.
You shouldn't dismiss a therapist's services just because of a drab environment or a rundown room. Sometimes such people can literally work wonders thanks to their vast experience. The only things that should concern you are the cleanliness of the table surface and the massage therapist's hands.
If there is damage to the skin, small wounds or rashes, it is best to temporarily refrain from any «contact» procedures.
Climate, weather, and the best time to visit
A narrow strip of luxurious beaches is washed by the ocean on one side, and bordered by the mountain range of the Western Ghats on the other. Here, the enervating heat that people from northern countries find difficult to endure is absent.
During the monsoon season, storms lash the coast, occasionally escalating into hurricanes. Giant waves deter even the most intrepid swimmers. Continuous rain kills any hope of a beach holiday. Tourists typically try to time their trips for the winter season, from late autumn to early spring. The best weather here is in December and January, while June is known for its torrential downpours and storms.
